The Numismatic Association of Victoria and the Melbourne Numismatic Society are holding an auction of badges, coins and tokens from the collection of the late Terry Pepperell. The auction will be held at the June NAV meeting on the 1st Floor of the Celtic Club on the Corner of Queen and La Trobe Street. Auction starts at 8:30pm.

The weekend of October 21-22 sees the Royal Society of Victoria, hosting the Numismatic Association of Australia's biennial conference in Melbourne.

It's no coincidence that this is just after Downies Australian Coin Auctions sale 325 on 17-19 October.

The Melbourne Mint don't appear to have anything to do with the publication, they're just an outlet.

An email just landed in my inbox from the Melbourne Mint informing me of a new book on Australasian coins, which caught my eye. Looks like author Lukasz Rosanowski has focused on modern issues with the "Grand Catalog of Australian and Oceanian Coins 2000-2017". Looks like locally "issued" NCLT has a sufficiently large global following to make this a viable publication.

Email from the Melbourne Mint I received today confirms that standard design 2016 Mob of Roo dollars are being released in to the wild.

The Islamic Museum of Australia, in the Melbourne suburb of Thornbury, have a forthcoming exhibition on Islamic Coins from 12th March through to 30th May .

Celebrate Australia's first Islamic Coin Exhibition at the IMA, presenting 100 original gold Dinars dating from the Umayyad period through to the Ottoman era.

The rich history of Islamic finance is illuminated in this showcase, comprising part of a vast personal collection belonging to coin specialist, Abdullah Bin Jassim Al Mutairi. The renowned Emirati historian and numismatist has 15,000 coins in his collection representing one of the largest and most rare collections in the world.

Al Murtairi is regarded as an international expert in this field, sought out by fellow coin researchers and institutions the world over, engaging him to assess their coins.

I'm glad it arrived safe and sound Trout and that you like medallion. I have to say I'm rather proud of the work that the Adelaide Mint did for the NAV. A number of societies still produce medallions, but most of them, for obvious cost reasons, ship the work off shore. I'm glad we got it made in Australia, especially given the theme of the piece, and we were able to make use of the Adelaide Mint's unique ability (in Australia at least) to apply the vitreous enamel it certainly makes it different to most medallions and coins currently in production. I also can't thank Mark and Kathryn enough for getting word out there.

There were 70 tickets sold in the first rush through the doors on Saturday and the place was packed for most of the morning. Sunday was a little quiet. Dealers I've spoken to were happy not just with the numbers but the fact that most people through the door were genuine collectors.
