British 50P wrong planchet strike.

This one is a bit of a puzzle. It is a 1997 British 50P struck on a scalloped planchet. Weight 6.0 - 6.1 grams and magnetic. I have started looking for a planchet that matches but with no luck so far. I have two examples of this error coin. Any thoughts anyone?

KM#181 Jamaican $10, nickel plated steel planchet weighing 5.94g with 12 sided scalloped rim.  Coin minted by the Royal Mint.  The only trouble is that they were first issued in 1999 but it's not beyond the realm of possibility that the RM was striking them a year or two earlier in anticipation of their release.

Thank you both for the information. I am now thinking it is probably struck on the Jamaican $10 coin planchet. As you have pointed out the 1999 $10 coins were probably struck earlier than 1999 to be ready for release in Jamaica. They were certainly struck by the Royal Mint. Is it possible that some 1997 British 50P coins were struck in early 1998 also?
When I bought the coins they were described as being struck on Hong Kong $2 planchets. That would have been nice considering the coin date. The year Britain handed Hong Kong  back to China. Unfortunately they are too light and magnetic.

I've found some references of the struck $10 coins being unveiled by the Central Jamaican Bank in February 1999 so it's almost certain that the coins were struck in 1998.  As to the RM striking 1997 coins in 1998 that could have happened.  The RAM strikes earlier dated coins all the time, I guess the RM could do the same thing.
