Interesting Serial Numbers

I just noodled a $10 note with a repeater serial number - AL 15 881 881. Unfortunately, it's got quite a few creases in it, so if it weren't for the serial number, I'd put it straight back into circulation. Do you think it's worth holding onto or not? Is there a market for repeater banknotes in Australia?

I think i'd be more tempted to keep it if it was a radar or solid but I haven't been following the market for a while as I stopped collecting notes as they're a bit of a pain storing and the market dropped off a while back and I found I ended up with too much money just sitting there that can be use better in other ways :winkextra: sorry I'm not much help Herc

That's the problem I've got at the moment. I sorted through my note collection yesterday, in preparation for the new $10 note, but I've just got so many of them that I think I would have been better off spending them. :winkextra:

Maybe I should compile a list of all the notes I have in my collection and see what everyone else thinks is reasonable. My eyes almost popped out when I realised just how many fifties and hundreds I have.

Gee that would be a hard call Herc. Everyone is different, to some it's clay to others it's .....

I agree with AJ's comment that notes have been a tad quiet, but that happens.

I'd hate to think of what I've had to put back to the pond, but given the choice to keep it, it would have always been the latter. (After all interest rates aren't great at the moment).

A list would be interesting though, even if just to gather opinions.

I've been putting 1996 $50 notes back into the pond for a while now, but then I read in Maccas last week that they're worth at least $110 each, so now I'm going to have to keep every single one I find, even if it destroys my budget. :dash1:

Is there anyone on this forum who collects 1996 $50 notes as a hobby? I really can't understand why they'd be so valuable. :dontknow:

I hang onto the 1996 $100 test note range and sell them if I can. Sometimes they sell, sometimes they don't. Usually it would be only a $125 sale, so after fees you've made $10 .....  but to me $10 is $10.

I just found another interesting serial number - this time on a $50 note. Is CD 99 877 773 worth anything more than face value?

I wouldn't think so, but wait and see what others think.

If the '8' was a '3' or vice versa it would be a nice six digit radar but that number not interesting enough.
You are five off being a good one - I had similar this morning but three off!

That is a repeater (881 twice) which some collectors seek so worth keeping -or selling if you don't want it- unless in very poor condition.
