It's a classic design and there's no shame in finding it attractive. But if it was me I'd be looking for my coats of arms on something with a bit more history: RE: Granny Bait - kchan1111 - 14-07-2014 (14-07-2014, 01:51 PM)markn Wrote:(14-07-2014, 01:48 PM)kchan1111 Wrote: Came across this... thought it was a very nice design. Should I feel shame finding it attractive? "Should I feel shame finding it attractive?" I think it is terrible that another collector has to even pose that question if you like the coin & can afford it then go for gold as I have said before, I find the term granny bait derogatory and insulting to grannies (being one myself!! ha ha) and to the collectors who enjoy collecting the modern silver coins RE: Granny Bait - kchan1111 - 14-07-2014 (14-07-2014, 05:52 PM)robbiegal Wrote: I think it is terrible that another collector has to even pose that question Thanks for that robbiegal. I am not really that ashamed of my fondness for the shiny new silver designs. The only reason why I am a bit wary is the drop in value later. I could potentially have gotten cheaper if I wait. I got to be careful though. If I buy everything that I like I would be bankrupt very soon. May be "kitsch" is better word. Kitsch or no kitsch - I like designs with coat of arms on them. RE: Granny Bait - robbiegal - 15-07-2014 I rather like how they have done the date on the design RE: Granny Bait - kchan1111 - 22-07-2014 http://www.australian-threepence.com/coin-news/prince-george-1st-birthday-coin/ "This Royal Arms was also struck onto a British 5 shilling Crown in 1960 seen below." That's why it's so nice. Designed by people back when they still have good tastes. RE: Granny Bait - interest - 01-11-2014 Today I bought some Granny Bait. The Perth Mint will release no more than 1,914 of The ANZAC Spirit 100th Anniversary Coin Series – First Convoy 2014 1/2oz Silver Proof Coin. I will be selling it I think. I'm not much on silver proofs, but do pick up the odd one or two that I think has an important relevance to our history. I reckon this one celebrates one of those events. At a mintage of 1914 it may be harder to get though. |
