Oh dear.... hundred-dollar Perth Mint granny bait! http://www.perthmint.com.au/catalogue/one-hundred-years-of-australian-military-aviation-2014-1oz-silver-proof-coin.aspx Its a nice design... at a quarter of that price maybe. Which is what they'll be going for in a year or so. Just like every other release. No worse than paying $55 for a 25mm silver coin and I do that in a heartbeat. Each to their own I recon RE: 2014 1oz silver proof 100 years military aviation - proof27 - 19-03-2014 (19-03-2014, 07:58 AM)trout Wrote:(19-03-2014, 07:37 AM)Fulvio Wrote:(18-03-2014, 07:22 PM)proof27 Wrote: Couldn't help it, had to buy two. RE: 2014 1oz silver proof 100 years military aviation - Fulvio - 19-03-2014 Errr... Suggestion... When replying. you will see [] tags with quote and /quote inside them, in matched pairs, same as HTML tags. You should edit these to remove extraneous guff (especially pictures, which some people have never gotten the hang of) before adding your reply below. Some people also seem to skip this last bit occasionally, for whatever reason. RE: 2014 1oz silver proof 100 years military aviation - purplepennyhunter - 19-03-2014 There are all types of collectors on this forum and we each have our own likes and dislikes, collect or not collect and our own opinions. Maybe it's not your cup of tea Fulvio but military themes are very collectable and there will be many many more released in the coming years. This coin isn't my cup of tea either but if it fits in proof27's collection, he likes it and owning it brings him joy then I won't rain on his parade. We all collect stuff that others may consider strange but that's what makes us all so different , THANK THE GODS Just like those high grade foreign coins Mark collects, Doesn't he know it's only Kosher to collect battered foreign coins crikey RE: 2014 1oz silver proof 100 years military aviation - proof27 - 19-03-2014 Thank you purple, Silver proof coins I do enjoy, yes expensive, but sometimes for me it isn't about the money. Some people are just very opinionated. RE: 2014 1oz silver proof 100 years military aviation - Fulvio - 19-03-2014 (19-03-2014, 06:52 PM)proof27 Wrote: Some people are just very opinionated. Well... perhaps misunderstood through poor phrasing, more like. There's nothing wrong with collecting anything and everything. And I quite like this coin, unlike many in recent memory. What I was saying was that these things are massively overpriced, and rapidly lose much of their value. That makes them a poor investment. That isn't because of my opinion. That's because the entire collector community concurs and refuses to support any kind of secondary market for them. That's what makes them granny bait, not the fact that they're non-circulating. My opinion is that we would all be much better served if the mints stopped treating collectors with disdain, and instead produced attractive products at realistic prices. That's why i loved the £20 coin so much.. a beautiful coin made to the highest standards, and issued at a very fair price (face value). There is no reason for any coin to be priced at five times its production cost, and a hundred times face value. No reason other than unmitigated greed, that is. RE: 2014 1oz silver proof 100 years military aviation - proof27 - 27-03-2014 Well I have them in my hot little hands, beautiful looking coins, so hard not to show my 13 yr son who wants to be pilot, but one is for his birthday in September. |
