Perth Mint: 1966 Round 50c Coin
#1

Hi, first post.. long time reader with a question.

Does anyone have any info on the 1966 Round 50c Coin

Product code-12U46AAA A not longer available Round 1966 50c Showing 1966 as the date on the coin.
Product code-16Y89CAA Currently available 50th anniversary packaging - doesn't show date of the specific included coin.

Is it an original 1966 cleaned up and repackaged, or a coin minted this year? Or just a fresh angle for the presentation card?

Below is quoted from the perth mints description of the coin 50th anniversary packaged coil.

Product Information

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1966 50 cent coin, this pack is a historic keepsake.

Australia’s first 50 cent coin was released in 1966 when decimal currency was introduced to Australia. The original 50 cent coin was round with a design by Dr Stuart Devlin AO CMG that featured a kangaroo and an emu facing each other with the Australian Coat of Arms between them.

The coin’s obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The original 50 cent coin was, and remains today, the largest and heaviest Australian decimal coin.

Presentation Card

Each coin is housed in a special 50th anniversary presentation card.

Cheers,
Matt

Might have to give them a ring. I'm going with repackaged bullion coinage.

Product information:
"The coin’s obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."

This contradicts the image on the packaging which is the original Machin portrait dated 1966.

I'm also going with repackaged bullion coin.

A wonderful opportunity to secure Australia’s only issued precious metal decimal coin in Very Fine to Extremely Fine, the 1966 Silver 50c 50th Anniversary Pack represents outstanding value-for-money at $29.95.

It has all the hallmarks of an ebay scam.Even on facebook
they would be reported for being a ripoff for a coin in that
condition
It's not about who you know it's about what you know

Downies blurb has the coins in "Very Fine to Extremely Fine" condition, and The PM has them in "Uncirculated Quality".

So maybe Downies got theirs from PM at a lower price due to a lesser quality.

The 2015 RAM 50.50 Two coin set had an uncirculated 1966 round 50c which was disappointing in quality I hoped for better
