I learned to drive in a Hillman Minx. What a load of crap. Some years later I owned a Hillman Imp; that was a great car with a beautiful, Coventry Climax designed all alloy motor (standard motor revs out to 7,000 rpm and race prepared ones are good for 10,000 rpm).

Great to watch, a bit like the earlier days of Bathurst before it was V8 only. You dont see many old cars anymore, racing them must be a concern for parts / panels if something goes wrong. The Imp goes back to the early 60's and was the first all alloy Car engine IIRC. They were also rallied. Being small and light works well on some tracks, the heavier but faster Cars dont handle or brake as well. Or brake as late ! If you get the chance, have a look at the film Stone. Sydney in the early 70's A good Aussie film but I like the roads, and Cars and seeing how things have changed. ( I made mention earlier ! )


Tractors ? There was a world record set for ploughing near Yass many years ago. Many nicely turned out old ones. Over 400 I think. I was behind one with the plough. The Fergies also had some odd placement of the exhaust, and started a few fires I seem to remember.

The HQ's were good to watch and apparently they run out of guards so a bloke started making them and done really well I hear, only have a couple but will find the pic's. As for the old fergie, mate those bloody seats were so hard unlike today with padding and suspension.
I only took one pic before the race because I liked the look of this car and low and behold he won

and the car on the grass is where this tyre come from

I wonder if the old chicken wire fence would still be there and if it passes all the OH&S safety standards of today.
