My Hilux radiator has sprung a few tiny leaks lately. Easy to solder up, old style copper/brass unit, but when a 28 year old radiator starts doing that time for replacement. Had to chase around to find the right one; three different outlet pipe configurations on that model and not interchangeable. Most suppliers only have one or two types and not the same as mine.
I found the right one, Supercheap will get one in on special order for $848 and a couple of places around the $500 mark.
Then I found a radiator specialist with one in stock in Sydney at a very good price. Ordered Wednesday afternoon and received it Friday morning first thing. From my dealing with them I am happy to recommend them. They have branches in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

2 part epoxy (eg araldite) can do wonders on radiator leaks too.
Did a "patch up" on a car a long time ago and the radiator ended up lasting quite a few years until the car was disposed of.

I used two part epoxy to repair a cracked power steering union just could not find a new hose with that size fitting. Still working after several years.

Wasn't Araldite though but a superior brand that takes high temperatures and shrugs of oil.

Yes,some exotic glues out there these days.

Neighbour had his Toyota 4WD fuel tank punctured by a screwdriver(steal fuel) by locals at the boat ramp whilst he was fishing.
Taxi up to a 24 hour service station and purchased a 'fuel tank epoxy repair' kit and a jerry can of fuel,repair is still not leaking a couple of years later.
Local Toyota Stealership quoting telophone numbers to replace tank so he's waiting to try and source one from a wrecker.

Odometer check NSW

The NSW government now includes annual odometer readings on the free registration check. Intended to stamp out "haircuts" (winding back the odometer. Presumably only available for vehicles more than five yeard as annual inspection is not required before then. Here is an example;

Not offered in other states. States that don't mandate an annual inspection (for example Victoria and Queensland) would not have tha data anyway.

Is that an annual inspection checking if the vehicle is still ''safe'' to operate on public streets?

We have such a thing here in Germany, too. It's called ''TÜV.'' New cars need the first one after three years, then every two.
Last week, my brother's car had his. Cost him roughly €140.
The odometer is checked. But this information is not put online. You get a paper certificate and the license plate gets a new seal.

Yes Ralf, safety check of tyres, steering, exhaust etc. Also includes an on road brake test. Fee for a car is AU$43.
Everyone calls them "pink slips" because, when it was purely a paper based system, the inspection report was pink paper. Now it is just a normal computer printout on plain paper. The vehicle owner gets the copy but doesn't need to do anything with it as it is already submitted on-line.

Interesting,i got a surprise when the USA Pickers guys come across Model A's on their TV  show,US$5000 for a good one,i thought they would be worth multiples of that.
Nearly 5 million produced so plenty of them still around in rural America.

Despite the number produced (nearly 5 million) in less than five years coupe and roadster bodies are almost impossible to find. They are preferred versions for hot rods so virtually every newish hot rod now uses a modern, replica body. In fact retored to original ones are now uncommon, even in the USA.

Similar story with the Model T roadster -more than 15 million produced.

It the anniversary of J Brabham winning the 1959 F1 championship at Sebring in the USA.
Jack was never really acknowledged in this country for the work with his mate Ron Taurenac in designing and building race cars.
He had a run in with the toffee nose race car  set early on.
 After winning everything at Speedway for years, then sponsored by Redex in an open wheeler finally pissed off to Britain where he was appreciated.
The rest is history.
